Hands-On Fun

Explore a Kid-Friendly Bike Path
Looking for a shaded, active family adventure that’s as bearable in Atlanta’s sweltering summer months as it is beautiful on a colorful fall day? We’ve got your day planned. Here’s the scoop.

Visit Big Trees Preserve in Sandy Springs
Take a walk in the woods at Sandy Spring’s Big Trees Forest Preserve, a 30-acre Fulton County Tree, Plant and Wildlife Sanctuary that’s open sunrise to sunset, seven days each week. There is ample free parking, and dogs on leashes are welcomed in the Forest. This previously threatened urban forest, one of the last in the highly developed area of Sandy Springs, is now a sanctuary in the city. Click here for the details.

Catch a Concert in Glover Park
Head to Marietta’s Glover Park for the sounds of Super Deluxe (variety party band). Be sure to bring a picnic and blankets or set up your lawn chairs after 4 p.m. The free outdoor concerts take place at 8 p.m. In 2020, so far the first four concerts have been postponed due to Covid-19. The August concert, if it occurs as planned, will be the first of the season. Check the website for current updates. Find details here.

Set Up a Backyard Water Park
Avoid the crowds and beat the heat by transforming your back yard into your own private water park oasis. Whether you’re looking for something simple—rainbow inflatable sprinkler, perhaps?—or a DIY project, you don’t need to leave the house to have your kids slipping and sliding the day away. Here’s what you need to know.

Go Fish at a Local Hole
With these local fishing spots, your kids will fall hook, line, and sinker for this easy going past time that doesn’t break the bank or require tons of planning—but can still allow for responsible social distancing while getting out of the house. For more details, click here.
